WWII Trip - Day 1

Finally it is our personal D-Day (departure day) - 11/06/13.  For two years we have been studying the history of the Western Front during WWII and planning a trip to see the historic sites in Normandy.  We have viewed all the great movies and TV series about the subject and read as many books as possible.  Now we will see if all of this preparation helps us relate to what we are about to see.

The inspiration for this endeavor came from a visit to the WWII Museum in New Orleans over Thanksgiving in 2011.  We were there with my son Brian and his two children when we accidentally discovered the Museum. We had no idea it was even there and as a result only had time to see the Western Front portion.  We hope to go back some day to see the building dedicated to the Pacific Front and this year they opened a third building and I am not sure what its focus is.

Of course the entire trip will not be just about WWII.  We will be visiting Bruges, Belgium, on our way to Normandy and ending our trip with our first visit to London.
